The area’s level in a recent report was listed as .909 ppb. EWG’s recommendation for a safe level of arsenic is .004 ppb. Arsenic is toxic, so the less of it in your water, the better for you.
There are other contaminants in drinking water with chemical names that are not so easily recognizable as something toxic like arsenic, and yet, they are potentially hazardous and associated with various health risks, including cancer. For instance, haloacetic acids are associated with increased cancer risks, but they appear in area drinking water 73x more than what EWG deems as a safe level. Again, there is discrepancy between legal limits as set by the EPA and recommended limits as reported by nonprofits like EWG. The legal limit is 60 ppb for these contaminants. EWG says the standard should be .1 ppb. Testing showed that the reading for the area was 7.32 ppb.
So, how safe is safe enough over time to drink water contaminated by contaminants like haloacetic acids, arsenic, nitrate, radium, or dibromoacetic acid? That’s a question that many consumers/property owners want to know.
