Fort Worth Plumbers – Toilets

If you are in the process of looking to remodel or upgrade your bathroom(s) in your home and you are looking for toilet(s) that will best go with your new upgrades and you are a bit frustrated because of all of the options then consider hiring Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and our Fort Worth plumbers will be more than happy to help assist you.  Nowadays, like most things, options are very wide when it comes to picking and choosing. It seems almost all products offer some form of gimmick that others do not.  The same applies to toilets nowadays too. In the past, a toilet was, well, just a toilet. It offered one option, to flush and nothing more.

However, today, there are toilets that have different types of flush mechanisms, water conservation toilets, self-cleaning toilets, even toilets with bidets equipped, automatic toilets, and more.  On top of this, innovation over the years has significantly increased water conservation in toilets in general.

One-piece or Two-piece Toilet?

However, if you do not want assistance in picking out what toilet will be best for your bathroom(s) then the first thing you need to decide is whether you want one piece or two piece toilet(s).  A one piece toilet will have both the bowl and tank housed in one complete package that cannot be separated. It allows for easier and more thorough cleaning. Another advantage of a one-piece toilet is that it virtually eliminates the possibility of a leak that can occur between the tank and the bowl.

Two-piece toilets have a separate tank and bowl that are installed together. Typically, the seat for the toilet will need to be purchased separately also.  Two-piece toilets are the most common type of toilets that are installed in homes across the nation. However, they are more prone to leaks and are not as easily cleanable as one-piece toilets.

Round or Elongated Toilet Bowl?

The next step will be to decide with whether you want a round or elongated toilet bowl. The found toilet bowls are great in areas where space is limited and is a concern for homeowners. Elongated bowls are a big bigger than round bowls but they allow for a larger and more comfortable seating area.

Additionally, when determining bowl shapes, you may seriously wish to consider deciding on a bowl that has a sanitary bar equipped. The purpose of a sanitary bar is to prevent liquids from collecting at the back of the bowl. Next, inspect the bowl’s trapway that you are interested in. The trapway is where the water flows into the bowl when you flush the toilet. A bowl that has larger trapways will be less likely to become clogged due to mineral build up over time.

Toilets of today must be manufactured within the guidelines established by the government that state that a toilet cannot use more than 1.6 gallons of water per flush.  With that in mind you may also wish to consider what flushing system the toilet you are interested in is utilizing. The flush valve is a piece of the toilet that’s purpose is releasing water into the bowl which will generate the flush.  Typically, the larger the flush valve, then the higher the rate at which water can flow from the tank to the bowl, which creates more powerful flushes. Flush levers will be located either on the right, left or even on the top of the toilet. The flushing system will either be a pressurized or gravity flushed system. The most common types of toilets in homes across the nation are gravity flushed toilets, simply because they are much more affordable.

Measurements

You’ve got it all decided, and you have picked out a couple of toilets that you like. However, will either of them fit? You will need to measure the distance from the center of the closest bolt for the toilet to the wall. If the toilet you have installed has four bolts then you will measure the center of one of the back left or right bolts to the wall. Next, measure the center of the mounting holes to the back of the new toilet. These two measurements should be equal or very close to it in order for the new toilet to fit in the space.

Special Needs Toilets

If you are in need of a specific toilet to meet special requirements, such as impaired mobility. Then look for toilets with the ADA label.  These toilets should rest taller from the floor than average toilets and allow for easier access.  If you need assistance you can count on Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and our professional and courteous Fort Worth plumbers to assist you with all of your plumbing-related needs.
